The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence
The event, which will take place from 6 to 14 June 2016, aims to combine scientific and practical knowledge on crucial topics of International law of the Sea, Migrations and Human Rights Law.
The ideal candidate will have completed a five, or at least a three-year long, University programme in Law, Political Science, International Relations, Law of the Sea, Maritime Studies, Maritime Economy, Human Rights, Migration Studies or equivalent.
Students enrolled in a University programme lasting longer than three years, who are at least in their fourth year and with an interest in the field, will also be considered.
Ph.D. students, post-doctoral researchers and young professionals in any of the above areas are encouraged to apply.
The working language of the Summer School OPEN SEA is English. A good command of English is therefore essential and evidence of proficiency may be requested.

How to apply
The final deadline for applying to the 2016 Edition of the OPEN SEA Summer School is 31 March 2016.
The application period runs from 10 December 2015 to 31 March 2016.
The number of participants is limited: no more than 40 participants will be admitted.
Please note that the Summer School will be activated from a minimum number of 15 applicants.
Teaching period
The Summer School will be held from 6 to 14 June 2016.
It will consist of 40 hours of teaching activities inclusive of traditional ex cathedral lectures, classroom training and workshop with stakeholders and policy makers.
Venue
The Open Sea Summer School will be held at the University of Naples “L’Orientale” and at the Vesuvian Institute Campus in Castellammare di Stabia, which overlooks the enchanting Bay of Naples, not far from Ercolano, Pompeii, Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano and the Isle of Capri.
The Institute is an ideal place for Open Sea Summer School, since it can combine knowledge with the traditions of archeology, history, art, environment, good food and conviviality.

Diploma and Accreditation
Participants who actively participate in the whole course and successfully complete the assigned coursework will be provided with a Diploma of attendance.
The OPEN SEA Summer School will be credited by the Department of Human Sciences of the University of Naples “L’Orientale” with ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits.
Summer School’s Fee
The OPEN SEA Summer School‘s FEE is € 700.00
Applicants who subscribe by 15 February 2016 will receive a € 100 discount on the total amount of the Summer School.
The Fee includes:
- All classes with renowned experts (academics and stakeholders) on migration of all around the EU;
- Official Diploma of attendance and European credits;
- Cultural Activities;
- Accommodation at the Vesuvian Institute in Castellammare di Stabia;
- Meals;
- Transfer service Naples – Castellammare di Stabia – Naples.
With respect to payment modalities, please consider that:
- a first tranche of 350 € must be paid within one week after you have been communicated that you meet all conditions and requirements to participate.
- the second tranche must be paid within 6 May 2016.

The registration process is complete upon final acceptance and payment of the fee.
