London. UK. Human Rights at Sea is delighted to announce the appointment of Lord Robin Teverson as Patron to the charity.
On 1 June 2006, Lord Teverson was created a life peer as Baron Teverson, of Tregony in the County of Cornwall. He is a Liberal Democrat politician, and a former Member of the European Parliament (MEP).
Chair of Trustees, Fiona Laurence, warmly welcomed the appointment and said: “’We are delighted and honoured that Lord Teverson has kindly agreed to become the first Patron of Human Rights at Sea. His support will be hugely valuable and will assist us in raising the profile and reach of our charity and its vital work.”
Lord Teverson commented: “I’m very pleased to work with the very dedicated team at Human Rights at Sea. Never has the work of the group been more important at this time of a pandemic that has disrupted not just shipping and seafaring itself, but the lives of so many individual crew members. I hope that I can help raise the profile of the human rights of those serving us on our seas and oceans”.
CEO, David Hammond, said: “We are privileged to be supported by Lord Teverson as our Patron and as a member of the House of Lords. We look forward to working closely together in both our national and international work to end human rights abuse at sea.”
Ends.
